In this podcast, David Freedman, Co-founder of NanoView Biosciences, provides an overview of extracellular vesicles and the development of new therapeutics.
Freedman has been an entrepreneur for over a decade and is the former CTO of eHomes, as well as former President of a successful computer services company. He completed a Ph.D. and Postdoc in Electrical Engineering at the prestigious Boston University.
Freedman’s company, NanoView Biosciences, is a true leader in the biosciences, and they provide groundbreaking solutions to detect and characterize extracellular vesicles. Freedman discusses extracellular vesicles in detail, explaining that extracellular vesicles are essentially the “Twitter of cells,” in that they act as minuscule messengers that allow cells to transmit biological information from one to another.
Freedman talks about the history of cell and exosome discovery. Exosomes are membrane-bound extracellular vesicles produced in the endosomal compartment of eukaryotic cells. Freedman continues, discussing NanoView Biosciences’ platform that allows researchers to look at not just the outside, but also the inside, of the exosome. And Freedman explains how they study samples, touching on the issues of nanoparticle size and count, and of course, biological activity. He discusses liquid biopsies and new therapeutics, noninvasive diagnostics, and other new therapeutic developments.
